Early Humans

Out of all of our early human ancestors, during this unit we learned about Australopithecus Afarensis, Homo Habilis, Homo Erectus, Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis, and Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Each hominid was more advanced than the ones which came before it. To begin with, Australopithecus Afarensis was the first hominid to be able to walk on two feet, which allowed them to use their hand more than they ever could.

After that, Homo Habilis came along. Homo Habilis was more advanced than Australopithecus Afarensis, and was able to make tools, which allowed them to hunt animals and cut meat.

Next came Homo Erectus. In addition to what Homo Habilis could do, Homo Erectus was able to use the advantages of fire and they wore clothes which allowed them to cook food and get some warmth.

After Homo Erectus came Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis. They had a sense of community which made them to grieve for their loved ones and bury them with specific rituals.

Finally, along came Homo Sapiens Sapiens, or "Early Modern Man." These advanced hominids were able to paint on the walls of caves. They also stitched clothes which were warm and they hunted with bows and arrows which allowed them to travel to cold parts of the Earth and hunt with ease.

Here is a podcast of Homo Sapiens Neanderthalensis (Neanderthals)
